With five miles of world-famous Boardwalk lined with shops, casinos and other amusements, it’s easy to work up appetites in Atlantic City. Legend has it the Boardwalk’s famed salt water taffy originated in 1883 after a storm flooded a candy store. Beyond taffy, seafood stars in Atlantic City, with local catch featured on menus almost everywhere. Waterview restaurants are plentiful, overlooking not only the ocean, but also rivers, lakes, bays, harbors and inlets. Many area restaurants -- some around since the late 1800s and still family owned -- feature fresh-off-the-boat bounty to go with veal, chops, steak and other favorites. If Atlantic City DiningGuide street names sound familiar, it could be because the most popular board game ever -- Monopoly -- was developed by Charles Darrow in 1929 using Atlantic City thoroughfares.
